OTHER NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS
As a specialist neurological service we treat people with many neurological presentations. We believe people living with a neurological condition require a knowledgeable clinician and often a multi-disciplinary team to address the vast array of problems that may arise from the condition limiting function, independence and quality of life. In addition to many of the more common conditions we treat, we also regularly assist people with the following conditions:
Polio. We regularly support people with the late effects of Polio (LEoP) or the symptoms of Post-Polio syndrome. Less commonly we also support people who have recently immigrated to Australia following a case of Polio. Maintaining function and future proofing through equipment prescription and environmental set-up can be crucial components of a management plan.
Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP). We work with a growing number of people living with HSP and often in collaboration with our orthotist and occupational therapy team to assist people maintain their mobility, balance, community mobility and environmental setup.
Cerebral Palsy. We work with both adults and teenagers living with Cerebral palsy, often to support introduction of adaptive equipment, address posture and seating needs if they arise, achieve developmental milestones and maintain independence throughout life.

If you have a rare neurological disorder or under investigation for one, it can be very difficult to find a clinician who understands your condition and symptoms. As a specialist neurological rehabilitation service our approach is to work with you and your medical team to support you in the best way possible to optimise your independence, quality of life and dignity.
Neurological disorders are diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system have many origins such as infection, cellular misfiring, small vessel disease and cerebrovascular disease, trauma, autoimmune and genetic disorders and neuronal degeneration. As well as the most common disorders that most people of heard of, there are many more less known through to very rare conditions. Sometimes, a person can have symptoms of a neurological disorder but no diagnosis, as this can in some cases take years. As clinicians, we assess your current and background presentation, liaise with your medical team and work with you to create a treatment plan that factors in many of these things as well as chronicity, prognosis and what your therapy goals are.
A multidisciplinary team
Depending on what stage of the rehab journey you’re at and what your needs are, you may work with some or all of our Neurological Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, specialist housing team Occupational Therapists and a Neuromuscular Orthotist. Treatment is available in our Sydney rehabilitation centres, online via tele-health services or at your home, gym or in the local community.
State-of-the-art equipment
The ARC stroke rehabilitation centre is home to the only LEXO® robotic gait trainer in Australia. This device is proven to help you get the most gait recovery from your therapy, and gives you a sense of what it’s like to walk unassisted again.
We also use a range of other robotic and technology enabled devices, including the latest devices from Myopro and Tyromotion to help with upper and lower limb rehabilitation.
