LEXO: The Robotic Gait Trainer
The LEXO®, a new state-of-the art robotic gait training device, is only available in Australia at Advance Rehab Centre. Bringing together the best from traditional gait training and the latest in robotic technology, the LEXO® is revolutionising gait rehabilitation for those presenting with stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy and many other neurological conditions.
The LEXO® works by creating a highly intensive, focused and motivating training environment that helps to improve walking ability, speed, endurance and independence. The LEXO® enables you to get more stepping practice in your session, at a higher intensity and in lots of different simulated walking environments.
What makes the LEXO® so effective is its end-effector mechanical design. Instead of restricting movement at the joints like in many other styles of robotic gait trainer, the lower limbs have the freedom to drive movement from the foot. This allows for a more natural walking pattern and increased activity around the ankle, knee and hip joints. The in-built sensors and force plates provide real-time feedback and adjustments to the dynamic body weight support system which enable precision prescription and adaptation during the gait cycle.
The LEXO® supports a more effective return to walking and at a higher quality.
The LEXO® is used as a key component of our Stand. Walk. Run. program when goals are based on increasing walking independence, distance, speed and quality. Following an eligibility assessment, most people will build up capacity and time on the device over time and as their ability improves. The LEXO® is incredibly accommodating and can be used by people wearing most orthotics and with moderate amounts of spasticity and contracture.
