Dictus Band. An Orthosis for Foot Drop.
ARC has Dictus Bands in the clinic which we trial with our clients. If needed, we can also arrange for a trial at home so you can see if a Dictus Band works for you in your own environment. Our physiotherapists have put together some information to help those considering a Dictus Band.
What is a Dictus Band?
A Dictus Band is an orthosis to help people who have foot drop. It consists of a steady leather ankle strap with a latex band that attaches to your shoe. The Dictus Band lifts the foot immediately after toe off. This reduces the risk of tripping over everyday obstacles such as rugs and doorsteps.
There is also an additional Barefoot Strap so you can continue to wear your dictus band inside the house or when walking barefoot.
Who is it for?
The Dictus Band is designed for people who have mild to moderate foot drop due to Stroke, Polio, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury or other neurological conditions.
The Dictus Band is not suitable for people who need lateral support, have significantly increased muscle tone in their lower legs, or have substantial ankle instability.
What are the benefits?
- Reduce your risk of falls.
- Improve your gait pattern which can lead to increased walking speed and/or distance.
- Easy to mount on any lace-up shoe.
- Easily cleaned with a damp cloth.
Can a Dictus Band be funded by NDIS?
If you are eligible, a Dictus Band may be able to be funded by the NDIS. Your Physiotherapist will be able to discuss this with you further.
